Do I need to pre-book my ticket?

Pre-booking is strongly advised for visits to the House and Grounds as we are operating on reduced capacity. If you cannot book online we can accept contactless payment bookings on arrival if we have spare capacity.

When pre-booking, please book for you and your household only. 

Please note that tickets will be released for sale online 2 to 3 weeks in advance only.

What days are you open?
4 days a week on Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday*

From 11am to 5pm (last admission is 4pm) *We may close have to close from time to time for essential maintenance or private events

Entry times for House Tickets

Please arrive anytime from 11am to enjoy the grounds before you visit the House. You can enter the House anytime during the hour slot you booked, once inside you can enjoy the House at your own pace and your visit is not restricted to 60 minutes.  You are welcome to enjoy the grounds again after your visit to House.

Closing time for all Tickets

Last entrance is strictly 4pm, we close the site and car park at 5pm.

Online bookings

Tickets will be released for sale online every 2 to 3 weeks in advance. Before buying tickets to visit Hopetoun House and Grounds you should be careful to select the correct type of ticket, date and time of your visit.  This is important for your comfort and safety as we are required to limit the number of guests on site each day. Therefore, tickets are valid for booked date and time-slot only. We cannot guarantee availability should your time slot be missed. Please book for you and your household only.

Getting here

For Sat Nav please use EH30 9RW which will take you into South Queensferry to Farquhar Terrace. From here you will be able to follow the brown signs to Hopetoun and it is a straight road from this point.

What happens on arrival?

Our staff will welcome you on arrival at the electric gates on the driveway leading to the House. If you arrive on foot or by bike please proceed to the admissions kiosk, keeping a safe 2 metre distance from other visitors and staff. If you arrive by car, please stay in your car, and wait for one of our friendly team to call you forward. Please bring your ticket with you and show at a distance for our staff to scan.

Physical distancing

We are opening the House and Grounds on a strictly limited capacity and anyone wishing to visit must have booked before arriving on site.  Once you have been admitted, please follow the information on signs (such as 2m physical distancing) and the advice of our staff at all times. Please follow the one-way routes and queuing systems in place and please follow the current government guidelines on physical distancing and household mixing at all times, this is for your own safety and for the safety of others.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. Dogs are very welcome in the grounds of Hopetoun but must always be kept on a lead.  However, dogs are not permitted inside the House or any of the buildings. As usual we ask all owners to bring their own poop bags and clean up after their dog. There is a water bowl in the colonnades for thirsty pets.

Face coverings

In line with Scottish Government guidelines you are required to wear a face covering whilst inside Hopetoun House and any other indoor areas (e.g. ranger centre and toilets).

Toilets

The toilets in the Stables wing will be open, in line with Scottish Government regulations you are required to wear a face covering if you use the facilities. Please follow the one-way system in place and keep a 2-metre distance from other guests and staff. The toilets will be thoroughly cleaned every day and our housekeeping team will be on hand during the day carrying out further regular cleaning.

Hand sanitiser

There will be a hand sanitiser station outside the House and the toilets and we kindly ask that you sanitise your hands before entering. You are strongly advised to bring your own hand sanitiser too.

Food & Drink

The Stables Kitchen remains closed for now, however our catering team at Heritage Portfolio will be offering a selection of cakes and drinks to take away from their horse box.  You are also welcome to bring your own food & drink and have a picnic on the lawns behind the House, where you can enjoy a view of the pond and the fountain. Barbecues are not permitted and of course please take your litter home.

Do we have to pay for parking?
No, we offer free parking at Hopetoun.

Is there any public transport?
Unfortunately not, we are situated in a rural location and there are no bus routes that come close to Hopetoun.

Can I bring my bike?
Yes, you are welcome to travel to Hopetoun by bike, but we kindly ask that you leave your bike in the car park and don’t take it around the grounds. For the safety of others who are also enjoying the grounds and to maintain social distancing, bikes and scooters are not permitted past the car park.

Is entry to Midhope Castle included?
No. Midhope Castle is a few miles away and is owned and managed separately from Hopetoun House.

Through the admissions and cleaning procedures we are putting in place, and with your co-operation, we should minimise the risk of Covid 19 transmission while you visit Hopetoun. However, as with anywhere that you might visit or shop in, we obviously cannot guarantee that anyone visiting or working here has not unknowingly been exposed to or is carrying the virus. By purchasing your tickets, you acknowledge that the Hopetoun House Preservation Trust cannot be held responsible should transmission of the virus to you be traced to a visit to Hopetoun.
