Historic Houses

Hopetoun House & Grounds is now closed to the public for 2024. We look forward to seeing you in 2025.

Hopetoun House proudly belongs to Historic Houses, a not-for-profit cooperative association encompassing over a thousand independently owned and operated houses, castles and gardens of significant historical importance.

Representing diverse ownership, including individuals, families, charitable trusts, businesses, educational institutions and local authorities, Historic Houses plays a crucial role in protecting them through representation, research, advice, guidance, marketing and membership.

By becoming a member of Historic Houses you’re helping to safeguard the future of these incredible sites with free access to historic houses, castles and gardens all across the UK.

For heritage enthusiasts, a Historic Houses membership, offers the most economical choice for exploring these sites. Every extra trip makes all your visits cheaper, so there’s a real incentive to take more outings than you would have done if you were buying your ticket each time.

The association’s support extends beyond financial benefits encouraging members to visit more sites, thus contributing to the preservation of lesser-visited historic places. Participating attractions can claim a small sum from Historic Houses for each of our members they admit for free.

By joining Historic Houses using the code HOPE51, you will receive a £5 discount on your joining fee and Historic Houses will give a further donation to the Hopetoun House Preservation Trust. This donation aids in the upkeep of Hopetoun House and Grounds for future generations.

In essence, membership offers value for money, fosters a sense of giving back through increased visits and contributes to the sustainable preservation of not only Hopetoun House but Britain’s rich historical heritage.
