As avid fans of the beloved TV series Outlander, we’re thrilled to welcome fellow enthusiasts to experience the magic of the show first-hand at Hopetoun. Nestled in the heart of Scotland, our historic estate has served as a backdrop for numerous iconic scenes throughout Seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Explore the rich tapestry of Outlander filming locations within our magnificent estate, including the majestic Hopetoun House itself and the picturesque grounds that surround it. Download our handy map to discover the exact spots where your favourite moments were brought to life.

Step into the Red Drawing Room, where the opulent home of the Duke of Sandringham was meticulously recreated for Series 1. Marvel at the Sea Trail and West Lawn, where dramatic duels and sword fights unfolded amidst stunning natural beauty.

And don’t forget to wander through the charming courtyard behind the Stables Tearoom, transformed into a bustling Parisian street for Series 2.

Midhope Castle – Outlander’s Lallybroch

We look forward to welcoming you to Midhope Castle, the real-life inspiration for the fictional Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s ancestral home. Dating back to the 15th Century, Midhope Castle exudes a timeless charm, despite its derelict interior it is a magical place to visit and just be around. downloadable Midhope Brief History.

Your ticket allows access to the castle grounds only, the drive leading to the castle, the archway, the courtyard and of course the castle steps. There is also access to a countryside walk along the Midhope Burn, where you may find the location of Jamie’s cave or where Rachel encounters Arch Bug.

Opening Times

The castle is open 7days a week from 9am with last admission at 4.30pm.

Due to our remote location in open countryside and that we are not served by public transport, we suggest you visit one of the many tours available or your own transport. If you do decide to visit using a taxi or UBER, please ask your driver if they are willing to wait for you as it is very difficult to get a taxi at Midhope Castle. As we are an outside experience please dress for the Scottish weather. We also ask visitors to adhere to our guidelines which can be accessed here.
