Hopetoun House launches Geotourist Trail

Hopetoun House is delighted to join Geotourist as one of 20 partners from across Scotland in an innovative project between Geotourist and Dr Keith Dinnie, from the University of Dundee, with tours now live.

The project seeks to identify and assess Geotourist’s unique economic and social benefits to Scottish tourism.

Geotourist is a smart travel app which supports destinations and organisations globally with location-based multimedia digital storytelling guides and visitor-generated data insights. Download the free Geotourist app from the Apple and Google Play app stores.

Hopetoun House has created a Hopetoun Grounds Tour which will allow visitors to discover Hopetoun at their own pace.  Narrated by Fiona Wall, Head of Visitor Services & Education at Hopetoun, this tour is educational and informative and covers a multitude of historical information.

Since 1974, the house and grounds have been owned and run by an independent charitable trust (The Hopetoun House Preservation Trust).  The main aims are to conserve and preserve the house and grounds and to facilitate and encourage access by the public for educational purposes.  It has been the ancestral home of the Earls of Hopetoun for over 300 years and the 11th earl and Countess still live in the house.

It is our hope that we can share knowledge with groups and individuals from within the local community and for those further afield.  By visiting Hopetoun, you will enjoy a wonderful day out, while helping to preserve and conserve Hopetoun so that it can be enjoyed for many more years ahead.

The Hopetoun Tour will be live across the summer and beyond, with a measurement and analysis checkpoint in place to assess the data at the end of the summer. The project was initially due to run until the end of May, but has now been extended to capture the busiest tourism months of the year.

Leveraging immersive storytelling as a way of accessing destinations, attractions and locations across Scotland, the pioneering project will measure engagement and assess the value of the tour in both socially and economically.

Joanne Greenaway, Director of Sales & Marketing, of Hopetoun House said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have collaborated with Geotourist on this project.  Its such a privilege to have been selected as one of 20 venues in Scotland to take part in this innovative project.  We look forward to welcoming Geotourist visitors and sharing Hopetoun and the wonderful stories.”
