When does The Stables Kitchen at Hopetoun House open for the season?
The Stables Kitchen will open for the 2026 season from Friday 3rd April to Sunday 27th September.
Please note that throughout the season there may be temporary closures or relocation dates due to events or activities taking place at Hopetoun House. We recommend checking the latest updates before travelling to ensure the café is open during your visit.

What are the opening hours of The Stables Kitchen at Hopetoun House?
The Stables Kitchen at Hopetoun House is open five days per week, Thursday to Monday.
Opening hours: 11:00am – 4:30pm
This makes it an ideal stop for lunch, coffee, cake, or afternoon tea while exploring Hopetoun House and Grounds.
Do you need to book The Stables Kitchen at Hopetoun House?
No booking is required to visit The Stables Kitchen.
The café operates on a relaxed counter-service basis, making it a convenient place to stop for visitors, walkers, families, and day-trippers exploring Hopetoun.
However, pre-booking is required if you would like to enjoy Afternoon Tea at The Stables Kitchen.
When is Afternoon Tea available at The Stables Kitchen and how do I book?
Afternoon Tea at The Stables Kitchen is available during café opening days Thursday to Monday.
There are three afternoon tea sittings available:
- 2:00pm
- 2:15pm
- 2:30pm
Each table is reserved for two hours, allowing plenty of time to relax and enjoy your afternoon tea experience after exploring Hopetoun House and the surrounding grounds.
Advance booking is required to secure your preferred time.
Is The Stables Kitchen at Hopetoun House dog friendly?
Yes, The Stables Kitchen is dog friendly.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome inside The Stables Kitchen, making it a great stop after a walk around the grounds surrounding Hopetoun House.
Dogs can even enjoy a treat from the Posh Pooch Menu, specially created for four-legged visitors.
Does The Stables Kitchen cater for dietary requirements?
Vegetarian options are available daily, and we aim to accommodate other dietary needs wherever possible. If you are booking Afternoon Tea, please let us know about any dietary requirements or allergies when making your reservation so the team can prepare suitable alternatives.
Due to Midhope Castle's location on a private part of our Estate we often have to prohibit access to visitors due to filming, farming operations, estate activities or large public events in the surrounding area.
