OUTLANDER ON THE FORTH
Did you know that there are four fantastic Outlander locations all within easy reach of each other? This makes for a perfect day out if you are based in Edinburgh or the surrounding areas.

Linlithgow Palace
Explore the magnificent ruins of the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. Linlithgow Palace was built and added to over two centuries by the Stewart kings, resulting in a superb Renaissance residence. Parts of the palace portrayed Wentworth Prison.

Blackness Castle
Mighty fortifications make this 15th-century castle look like a ‘ship that never sailed’. Blackness was never just a peaceful lordly residence – its enduring roles were as a garrison fortress and state prison. It served as the filming location for Fort William in Outlander. Explore the castle’s interiors and take in the breath-taking views of the Firth of Forth.

Midhope Castle, the real-life inspiration for the fictional Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s ancestral home. Dating back to the 15th Century, Midhope Castle exudes a timeless charm, despite its derelict interior.

Hopetoun House
Visit Hopetoun and discover a place of beauty, tranquillity and architectural magnificence dating from the 17th century. It has been home to the Hope Family since the late 1600’s. A remarkable and beautiful stately home, filled with stunning collections and sits in majestic grounds with nature trails and scenic walks.
